He is one of the Old Guard in the Society of Natural Philosophers. He is frequently at court and has served the king on many occasions. He was Will Cartesian’s tutor and oversaw his instruction in all things. Will became known to many of Excelsius’ contacts. Excelsius avoids getting embroiled in factions and conflicts and is noted for his impartiality. Excelsius often commissions agents to seek out information or to perform various tasks. Will works for him occasionally.
